After watching the video Explore Careers as an Entrepreneur, use some or all of the following questions to discuss the video content:
- What qualities do you think are most important for someone who wants to be an entrepreneur? Why?
- Why might someone choose to start their own business instead of working for someone else?
- How can being creative help an entrepreneur solve problems?
- What do you think are some of the biggest challenges an entrepreneur might face when starting a business?
Activity Instructions:
Students will create hanging mobiles. Each piece will represent the key qualities, ideas, or figures that inspire them as future entrepreneurs. For example, mobile pieces might showcase a specific entrepreneurial trait (e.g., innovation, perseverance, creativity), a famous entrepreneur, or a motivational word or phrase.
Entrepreneurs are people who start their own businesses by coming up with creative ideas to solve problems and help others.
Today, you’ll be thinking about what makes a great entrepreneur. Then, you’ll create an inspiration mobile that showcases the traits, ideas, and people who inspire you to think like an entrepreneur.
- Use books and/or the internet to select and research entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial traits. If you’re not sure where to start, consider researching one of the entrepreneurs from the video or take a look at the “List of Possible Entrepreneurs”.
- Create a list of the entrepreneurial traits you want to focus on. Some possible examples include creativity, perseverance, and problem-solving.
- Using scissors, construction paper or cardstock, and some colorful writing utensils, create the pieces for your mobile. You’ll be creating one mobile piece for each of the entrepreneurial traits you selected in Step 2. But you can also create mobile pieces about entrepreneurs you find motivating, entrepreneurial ideas you have, or anything else that inspires you.
- Cut out a variety of construction paper shapes
- On each piece, write or draw something that inspires you as an entrepreneur. Be sure to include each of the entrepreneurial traits you chose in Step 2!
- Decorate your shapes using decorative craft supplies.
- Use the hole punch to punch a single hole in the top of each of your mobile pieces.
- Arrange your mobile pieces in an attractive order. Remember, you can arrange some pieces so they will hang under other pieces!
- Get some string and a hanger. Attach your mobile pieces to the hanger using string. Adjust the length of your strings so that some pieces hang lower than others until it looks just the way you want.
- Be prepared to share your mobile with the class or a small group. You will be explaining why you chose each trait, idea, or individual on your mobile and how your mobile pieces inspire you to think like an entrepreneur.
