Empowerment Video: Become a Content Creator

Basic Supplies:

  • Poster board
  • Construction paper of various colors
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Magazines and newspapers
  • Stickers, fabric scraps, glitter, and any other available craft items
  • Markers

Video Discussion:

Ask, “What is a content creator?”

Direct students to turn and talk to a partner. Then, call the class back together to share their ideas.

Work together to form a class definition for the term “content creator”. (For example, “A content creator is a someone who creates entertaining or educational material to publish or post.”)

After watching the video Become a Content Creator, use some or all of the following questions to discuss the video content:

  • What is a content creator?
  • What types of content did the role models in the video discuss?
  • Where might a content creator publish or post their work?
  • How do you think content creators get their ideas?
  • What tools do you think content creators might use?

Explain that many types of content creators use mood boards as a tool to help them communicate with their clients, create a theme for their content, or brainstorm ideas.

As time allows or as needed based on student level, example mood boards can be shown. A simple internet search will turn up many options.

Activity Instructions:

Students will be creating a mood board to showcase their personal style.

The role models told us that one critical aspect of being a content creator is being authentic. Understanding your personal style is a great first step to identifying the type of content that you could create while remaining true to yourself.

  1. Think about the colors, styles, fabrics, and more that you love. These could be fabrics you like to wear, colors you enjoy using in art class, or styles that look great on your favorite TV show.
  2. Browse through the newspapers and magazines to cut out anything that speaks to you and your style.
  3. Select scraps of fabric, colored markers, or anything else that you like from the craft materials.
  4. Using a piece of poster board, arrange your magazine clippings and other craft materials in a way that looks pleasing.
  5. Use glue to secure each item to your poster board.
  6. Optional: Add extra drawings or doodles to fill in any empty space.
  7. Add a title and/or your name at the top.
  8. As time allows, look at your finished mood board and answer the following questions on a separate piece of paper:
    • What do the items you selected have in common?
    • How would you describe your personal style?
    • Choose 3 adjectives that describe your mood board.
    • What type of content do you think you could create authentically? Why?
