Bio
Watch Mia Stevens, robotics engineer and Ph.D. candidate at the University of Michigan, share how her work helps drones and other forms of robotics to support human activity for good. Specifically, she makes sure that drones are geocoded to prevent them from entering sensitive airspace around airports and flying over crowds of people without permission. Robotics is a great career for girls because it's fun. You not only get to decide the physical form of the robot (hard, soft, short, tall, etc.), you create the software that allows the robot to sense and react to objects and experiences (like what to do when it sees a doorknob). Her advice to girls is to tune out all the noise and focus on what you want to do, no matter what anyone else says.
